House History

Vance's Country Guest House

Confederate veteran Will Vance and his wife built this house in 1885. The property has remained in the family ever since, with Vances occupying the house until 2003. Will's son John and his wife Ruth raised their family here after their marriage in 1906. Eight children were born between 1907 and 1920. Lohr, the oldest, lived in the house his entire life, until shortly before his death at age 97. Lohr's younger brother, Bruce, is Robin's father.  Nancy and Robin bought the farm in 2004 and began renovations in 2010. Vance's Country Guest House opened in March 2013, with the kitchen, pantry, dining/bedroom, and bath/laundry complete. The remainder of the house was completely re-done in 2015.

So far, the earliest known photograph of the house, c1913.
